TREASURE I NEVER SLEEP

The track entitled 'I Never Sleep' is taken from the untraceable, discrete band Treasure's self-titled debut. It sounds like I've heard Treasure before... probably because this band follows a popular recipe that I love: taking elements from washed-out indie and blending it with jazz chords. To sum up the sound of this band, think Homeshake meets Frank Ocean at Good Morning's house. A soulful style of lo-fi indie, not too dissimilar to that of South London's Cosmo Pyke. Alien-like affected vocals open the door to this tune, inviting in a sweet repetitive melody that sounds like a thumb piano, juxtaposed with a dirty trip-hop drum beat. The vocals are effortlessly soulful in quite an endearing way. They're layered in harmony and doused in reverb which adds to the song's eeriness, along with some atmospheric synth layers. 'I Never Sleep' is hazy and blurry, exactly like when you can't get to sleep because your mind is too busy and your eyes are tired from a screen. The vocalist of Treasure serenely sings: "I Never Sleep, just a Night Owl in the Night garden. I had a dream, You were on my mind, I beg your pardon." - Ellie Rose Davies
